The research
Why does answering in seconds matter?
Because leads expire in minutes, not days. Study after study shows the first business to respond usually wins the job — and most businesses take hours. Answering in seconds doesn't make you a little faster than the competition; it puts you in a different race entirely.
more likely to qualify a lead when you make contact within 5 minutes instead of 30 — and about 100× more likely to reach them at all.

How does Speed to Lead work?
You give the assistant a playbook — your services, prices, service area, and rules. Then you forward the calls and lead emails you can't take. From that point on, every lead is answered in seconds and everything it does lands in your inbox.
Tell us how you run your business
Services, prices you'll quote (and the ones you won't), service area, hours, what counts as an emergency. That becomes your assistant's playbook — it can only say what you've approved.
Point your leads at it
Keep your number — forward calls you can't take to your Speed to Lead line, and forward your lead email, including Angi, Thumbtack, and Google Local Services notifications. Setup is typically same-day.
The AI answers in seconds, every time
Calls picked up 24/7. Emails answered in under a minute, in the same thread. Questions answered from your playbook, jobs booked into real openings — and read back to the customer before confirming.
You get the lead, not the interruption
Instant notification with the customer's name, number, job details, and the transcript. Anything unusual — a big commercial job, an angry caller, a gas smell — gets escalated to a human: you.
What you get
What can it handle?
Voice
An AI that actually answers your phone
Every call answered on the first ring, 24 hours a day — no hold music, no voicemail graveyard. It greets callers with your company name, answers questions from your knowledgebase, collects the job details you'd ask for yourself, and can transfer callers to you live when you want it to.
Every conversation produces a transcript and summary you can read in thirty seconds.
Don't take our word for it — call (816) 382-0487 and talk to it yourself.
Lead emails answered before your competitor's phone rings
A real, personalized reply in the same thread in under a minute — not an autoresponder. Angi, Thumbtack, and Google Local Services notifications are parsed the second they arrive. LSA has no webhook — most tools poll every 15 minutes; we read the notification the moment it lands.
Booking
Scheduling that respects the windshield
Walk-in businesses get capacity-based slotting. Field businesses get drive-time-aware scheduling: before offering a 2 p.m. slot across town, it checks real road-network drive times against the jobs already on your calendar. Prefer control? Set propose-only and confirm each booking with one tap.
Alerts
You always know, immediately
Every lead fires an instant notification with full details by email — name, number, job, transcript. Escalations you've reserved for a human come through marked urgent. Once carrier approval lands, you'll also get a short text ping (details ride the email — we never text consumers' personal information).
Your data
Your calendar, your dashboard, your systems
Subscribe to your bookings from Google, Outlook, or Apple Calendar with one link — no OAuth, no account access handed over. Month-to-date usage vs. your allowances is always visible, and HMAC-signed webhooks push new leads and bookings into whatever software you already run.
Texting
SMS follow-up and missed-call text-back are built and waiting on A2P 10DLC carrier review. Phone and email are live today. See our SMS program terms.
Don't take our word for it.
Call the demo line and have a real conversation. The AI answers as a fictional plumbing company — ask about a leaky water heater, ask for a Saturday slot, try to get it to quote a slab leak. See what your customers would hear.
Pricing
What does it cost?
Three flat monthly plans — $299, $499, and $749 — sized by how much of the work you want handled. Every plan is month-to-month with hard usage caps: you're alerted at 80% and stopped at 100%, so a busy month can never turn into a shock invoice.

Frequently asked questions
What is speed to lead?
Speed to lead is how fast a business responds to a new inquiry — a call, a web form, or a marketplace lead. Research shows it's one of the strongest predictors of winning the job: contacting a lead within 5 minutes makes you about 21× more likely to qualify them than waiting 30 minutes (MIT/InsideSales.com). Speed to Lead is also the name of our service, which answers your leads in seconds so the research works in your favor.
How fast should you respond to a new lead?
Within five minutes. Harvard Business Review research found companies responding within an hour were about 7× more likely to qualify a lead than those responding an hour later — yet the average business takes 42 hours, and 23% never respond at all. Seconds beat minutes, and minutes beat everyone.
Can AI answer my business phone?
Yes. Speed to Lead answers calls 24/7 with your company name, answers questions from a playbook you approve, takes structured job details, and can book appointments or transfer callers to you live. You can hear it yourself by calling our demo line at +1 (816) 382-0487, where it answers as a fictional plumbing company.
How much does an AI answering service cost?
Speed to Lead runs $299 to $749 per month depending on features, with 400–1,000 voice minutes included and overage at $0.15 per minute, metered per second. Every plan has a hard monthly cap — you're alerted at 80% and stopped at 100%, so there are no surprise bills. Plans are month-to-month with no contract.
Will the AI make things up — wrong prices, promises I can't keep?
It can only work from the playbook you approve, which includes hard "never say this" rules (like "never quote exact prices for slab leaks" or "never promise same-day service"). Email replies are checked against those rules by a second pass before anything sends, and anything the rules don't cover gets escalated to you instead of guessed at. Bookings are read back to the customer before they're confirmed, and the calendar system — not the AI — decides which slots exist.
Do I have to change my phone number or email?
No. You keep your number and forward the calls you can't take to your Speed to Lead line, and you forward your lead email address to the address we provision for you. Most setups are done in a day.
Does it book appointments or just take messages?
It books, if you want it to. Walk-in businesses get capacity-based slots; field businesses get drive-time-aware scheduling that checks real road travel times between the jobs already on your calendar before offering a slot. You can also set propose-only mode, where the assistant offers times and you confirm each booking with one tap.
Does it work with my existing calendar?
Yes, without handing over your account. You subscribe to a private calendar feed to see bookings in Google, Outlook, or Apple Calendar, and you can give the assistant your busy calendar so it never books over your existing jobs. No OAuth or password sharing involved.
What happens with Angi, Thumbtack, and Google Local Services leads?
Their notification emails are parsed the second they arrive — name, phone, job, and address extracted into a lead record, with an immediate alert to you. Google LSA has no webhook, so most software polls it every 15 minutes; we read the email the moment it lands. Instant callback to those leads is included in the Growth plan.
Can it send text messages?
Not yet — SMS is built but waiting on carrier approval (A2P 10DLC review, required for all business texting in the US). Phone and email are fully live today; text notifications and missed-call text-back will switch on once approval lands. Our SMS program terms are published at composedchaos.net/sms.html.
What happens when a call is something only I can handle?
The assistant escalates instead of improvising. You define escalation triggers — emergencies, commercial jobs, discount requests, anything sensitive — and those always go to a human. Live transfer to your phone is available when you want to take the call on the spot.
Is there an API? Can my software connect to it?
Yes. Everything is available over a REST API (leads, bookings, availability, drive times, service-area checks, lead parsing), with signed webhooks for new leads and bookings, plus an MCP server in the official registry (net.composedchaos/speed-to-lead) for AI agents. Developer keys are self-serve at $49/mo — see composedchaos.net/api/ and docs at api.composedchaos.net/docs/.
For your software person
Everything above is an API.
Leads, availability, booking, drive times, service-area verdicts, lead-email parsing — REST endpoints with signed webhooks, plus an MCP server in the official registry so AI agents get the whole pipeline as native tools.
